YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT | A Deep Dive

TURNING RED | DISNEY
If WE do not inform our children of God’s heart on this matter, who will?
Will we leave it up to Disney (or those with similar worldviews)
to inform our children and ourselves?
> Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.> Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
> Philippians 4:11-13 “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little”.
In our childhood years (and beyond) most of us looked forward to every Disney movie release with great anticipation and excitement.
Among their biggest box office hits were:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Pinocchio (1940)
Dumbo (1941)
Bambi (1941)
Old Yeller (1957) and
Mary Poppins (1964)
Who could ever forget Cinderella (1950) and Old Yeller? (1957) …
Two classics sure to make you cry and laugh out loud.
When it comes to Disney movies, I looked away several years ago. Somewhere along the way (perhaps in the 1990s or mid-2010s), Disney’s stories and corporate practices began to decline. We saw Disney promoting values that conflict with biblical worldviews — for example, themes of self-fulfillment over self-denial, individualism over moral order, the normalization of LGBTQ+ identities and gender fluidity, occult or pagan imagery, and a diminishing of traditional Christian authority and worldview. (a)
That’s why I was saddened to learn of so many children (and adults) flocking to Disney’s movie “Turning Red”. Everywhere one turned, the screens were filled with commercials and the familiar flood of merchandise that typically surrounds modern Disney releases. Even many well-meaning believers—those who sincerely love the Lord—appeared unaware of the subtle yet powerful messages shaping the minds of children.
The movie Turning Red might have gone entirely unnoticed were it not for the day a child’s voice drifted by, singing a lively tune that was unfamiliar. A quick online search of the lyrics led straight to Turning Red. Watching a few clips on YouTube—without purchasing the film—revealed that the song was titled “U Know What’s Up.” Clever and undeniably catchy though it was, the message behind it became clear soon enough—and it was anything but uplifting.
Go to the timestamp 1:17 and go from there: Scroll to the end for the full lyrics at that spot:
Ladies and gentlemen, listen up
I’m gonna ask you a few questions
And I just want you to be honest with me
You want those shoes? You want that shirt?
You want that car? You want that purse?
Ha, I’m gonna need you to convince me
You ready? Herе we go
You want it? (I want it)
You want it? (I want it)
You want it? (I want it)
IMMEDIATELY, the verses (mentioned above) came to mind. Hebrews 13:5, Philippians 4:11-13 and Psalm 23:1These are three very important Bible verses for a person who professes Christ and desires a close walk with Jesus. Many of us learned them as children in Sunday school or Bible Summer Camp. Naturally I was sad to hear what children are singing. Give a listen below. The lyrics are written at the end of this article.

The evil one “lied” to Eve in the garden and planted a seed of “discontent” in her heart. We all know the end of that story. Then I thought about how satan never changes. He’s not creative at all. He sows the same sad, stale lies over and over again into fresh young hearts, and truth be told into some “seasoned saints” hearts too. Without proper attention, they ultimately grow into a great harvest of lust for Power, Sex, and Money. WoW!
I am also reminded however, that with proper attention to the soil of our hearts, we can pluck up those poisonous seeds and uproot the evil ones’ attempts to rule us. God empowers us to “see” with the spiritual eyes He gives us. Moreover, through the power of God’s gift of His Holy Spirit, we are aware that the “Prince of The Power of the Air” will never stop in his work to OWN US, and convince us that “if we want it” its up to us to get it.
My question is: What if its NOT God’s will for our life?https://biblehub.com/proverbs/12-11.htmWHAT IF the chasing of fantasies shows our total lack of wisdom. Proverbs 12:11. The evil one will never give up on trying to convince us we need that thing, person, or situation. He will continually throw those arrows of discontent, envy, and dissatisfaction at us. I pray that God’s Holy Spirit continues to inform me/us that we don’t have to live in want; because we all know “What’s Up”.
We all know that …What’s up … is satan’s insatiable desire to knock us down to his debased, shameful, disgraceful and degraded level. He wants to enslave and own us, from the smallest “want” of our life to the biggest desires of our hearts (Matthew 6:21). Purses that cost thousands of dollars, designer shoes that cost hundreds, luxury cars (we won’t even go there), a status address, another man’s wife or husband. The list is endless for adults. It is endless for children too. If we, as adults, have not mastered our own desires, how then can we impart wisdom to our children.
So:YOU WANT THOSE SHOES?
YOU WANT THAT SHIRT?
YOU WANT THAT PURSE?
YOU WANT THAT ________________?
(fill in the blank)
As previously stated, it is important to reiterate that:
If we do not inform our children about God’s heart on this matter, who will?
Will we leave it up to Disney (or those with similar worldviews) to inform our children and ourselves?
Let’s teach our children what God’s word says about “want”
Let’s help them remember that apart from Jesus we can do nothing. John 15:5
Let’s take a hard look at the deepest desires of our own hearts.
Let’s remind ourselves through the daily renewing of our minds, that satan is that roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.
I do not think I am over spiritualizing this issue, and I have heard no one address it.
Our children are growing up thinking its “okay” to want and get. If Mom/Dad, Grandparents, etc.
won’t get it for me, well then, I WILL one way or another get it for myself.
Is that what we really want?
Genesis 4:7b – sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it
Proverbs 4:23: Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life
I’m reminded of that old camp song “Enemy’s Camp”

Granola Bar | No Oil/No Sugar/No Salt

THIS NUTRITARIAN GRANOLA is easy to make, highly nutritious, and delicious.

INGREDIENTS: 20 2″ Servings
Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or longer if you prefer them less moist. (see notes below)

These are very good, BUT only four stars because I felt they would be too dry and (for me) not enough flavor. Below are my changes.
SUBSTITUTIONS and/or modifications:
1) Instead of whole dates, I used 75 g of date paste. Brand used: Date Lady, findable on Google search.
1a) I used the entire green apple, unpeeled. Use any apple of your choice
2) Use any brand of oats you preferADDITIONS:
1) 2 Tablespoons of Artisana Organics Tahini (32 g) (or any other nut butter you prefer
2) For the cinnamon … taste it if you want more cinnamon flavorIf you use my modifications, you’ll need to bake the mixture for an additional 10-20 minutes to ensure it cooks thoroughly. Keep an eye on them if you increase the baking time; every oven is different.
MY COMMENTS AFTER TASTING:
I would have baked the bars 15-20 minutes longer. Cover with a piece of parchment paper to prevent over-browning of the top. They were a bit too mushy. That is my fault because I added ingredients. I will make them again soon, but will increase the baking time and report back my findings. My Findings after making a second time. They are still too moist for my taste, but hubby loves them this way. I’m going to make another batch, bake them the same amount of time, and put them in the dehydrator for 6 hours. Will report back.

Hummus From Cookie and Kate: https://cookieandkate.com/best-hummus-recipe/

It’s a mid-week, mid-afternoon chilly November day. For the past few minutes, my husband and I have been enjoying some tea/coffee/cookies and quiet time. If I had a crackling fire it would be heavenly.
